ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist deeply rooted in my Colombian and Puerto Rican heritage, my work traverses the vibrant landscapes of culture and nature, exploring the question of identity both personally and artistically. My creative practice encompasses painting, ceramics, photography and most recently sculpture, each medium allowing me to express the beauty and complexity of the worlds I inhabit.
In my paintings, I draw inspiration from the rich flora and fauna of my homelands, employing a bright color palette that reflects the vibrancy of both cultures. I experiment with various mediums such as acrylic and oil paint, watercolor, chalk pastels, and charcoal; each offering unique possibilities for expression. Through my art, I strive to form a connection to the places I call home, transforming my experiences into visual narratives that invite viewers to see the world through my eyes.
Ceramics allow me to combine my love for tactile craftmanship with cultural storytelling. I enjoy carving and creating reliefs that serve as both functional and decorative pieces, echoing the aesthetics of Colombian and Puerto Rican artistry. Each piece is a celebration of my heritage, infusing everyday objects with cultural significance.
Photography is where I feel a profound sense of fulfillment. I believe that nature is a divine canvas, revealing the artistry of the Creator. I find spirituality in the natural world, capturing its intricacies through macro photography that highlights the beauty of simple, minute flowers, delicate textures, and breathtaking landscapes. When photographing subjects in natural settings, I aim to capture authentic moments that reflect their personality and essence, creating a dialogue between the individual and the environment.
Ultimately, my work is a journey of self-discovery, a quest to understand who I am as an artist and as a person. Through each piece, I invite viewers to join me in celebrating the complex tapestry of identity, culture, and nature.
